Arctic Svalbard:
Land of the Ice Bears

As a 2015 National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow I have the privilege to go on a National Geographic Expedition in partnership with Lindblad Expeditions. Photo from expeditions.com

Land of the Ice Bears Expedition

2015 National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship

I am honored to be selected among this great group of educators and look forward to sharing more about my experience.

I had just returned a few weeks before from attending the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz in Poland when I got the call telling me that I was selected for the 2015 National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow program. This is where my blog post "Feeling Blessed" came from, I had just been selected as 1 of 24 international educators to go to Poland and now I am 1 of 35 educators selected for this Fellowship. It is still hard to believe, but I am grateful and hope that I can create some great student projects.

In June I will be traveling aboard a National Geographic Explorer ship to Svalbard, Norway -- the Arctic --- with 2 other teacher fellows as well as National Geographic and Lindbland Expedition photographers, researchers, naturalists, undersea specialists and an oceanographer.

Utah Public Radio
4.11.2015

I did a pre-expedition interview with Melissa Allison at UPR [Utah Public Radio] - she is the same journalist who interviewed me while I was in Poland [See 'In the News' page for full interviews].

UPR has asked that I be a citizen journalist during the expedition and record my experience to publish when I return from the Arctic. I have a nervous excitement for this project. While I have about 10 years of journalism experience it's all written, so doing radio will be a good opportunity. I only hope that I do justice to this amazing experience.
